Shallow, sheltered and close to the car. The right place to lose a morning with small children and a rod.

Why It Works

The lake mouth is shallow and the water is calm for most of the tide, so nobody is standing in surf and nothing needs casting eighty metres.

There are small fish in reachable water, which is the only feature that matters when the audience is six years old and the attention span is finite.

Keep It Short

One rod between two children, bait already cut, and a plan to leave before anybody wants to. Ending on a high is worth more than an extra hour.

Take a bucket. Half of the actual entertainment here is soldier crabs and whatever washes up, and the fishing is the excuse rather than the point.

Practicalities

Parking and facilities are managed by the council and the area gets busy in holidays. Details on the reserves along this stretch sit with Sunshine Coast Council.

Go on the rising tide, take more water than you think, and accept that you will not be fishing so much as supervising.
