First and last light, white water, and a fish that turns up in numbers or not at all.

The Timing Is Not Negotiable

Tailor feed hard in low light. The half hour either side of dawn and dusk is the session, and the middle of the day is a walk with a rod.

Get there before you need to, rig up in the dark, and be fishing when the light changes rather than arriving as it does.

Where the Fish Are

Look for the white water and the gutters running off the headland, and fish the edge where the aerated water meets the clean. That seam is where the bait gets pushed and held.

A rising tide into the dark is the classic. They come in with the water and they leave with it.

Safety, Because It Matters Here

Rock platforms on this stretch are not forgiving. Never turn your back on the water, never fish a ledge you have not watched for a full set, and wear something with grip.

If the swell is up, fish the beach instead. The gutters on the open sand hold tailor too and nobody has ever drowned on Dicky Beach because they were impatient about a headland.
